Kids Money System: Start Here

Welcome to your kid’s first money system. You do not have to set up everything at once. Start together, keep it simple, and make the routine work for your family.

Set it up in five steps

  1. Pick the chores. Choose the chores your child can handle and decide what each one is worth.
  2. Name the envelopes. Use the eight name inserts to label the things your child wants to save or spend for.
  3. Add the trackers. Put one cash flow tracker inside each envelope and write the starting balance.
  4. Choose a goal. Let your child pick something they want to save for, then add it to the planner.
  5. Make the first plan. Open the weekly money plan and decide what money will be saved, invested, spent, or used to pay for something.

Use it every week

  1. Complete chores and check the chart.
  2. Add up what was earned.
  3. Save or invest first.
  4. Give the rest of the money a job.
  5. Update each envelope tracker.

Keep it simple

There is no perfect way to use this system. Your family gets to decide the chores, money rules, and goals. The best plan is the one you can keep doing together.
