Cash Stuffing Basics
What exactly is cash stuffing?
Cash stuffing is a hands on budgeting method where you divide your money into physical envelopes or sleeves for different goals. Instead of swiping a card and guessing what is left, you physically see where every dollar is going. It makes saving feel real and makes it much harder to overspend. We just made it cute.
How much money do I need to start cash stuffing?
There is no exact amount required to start cash stuffing. The amount is determined entirely by your individual paycheck and your personal budget. After you get paid, your digital payments and automated expenses stay in your bank account. The remaining funds for your sinking funds and variable cash envelopes are what you should be cashing out. We do not recommend starting with a random fixed amount like $50. It needs to align with your actual budget after accounting for your bills and automated payments.
What is a sinking fund?
A sinking fund is money you set aside a little bit at a time for a specific upcoming expense. Instead of pulling from your emergency savings when the holidays roll around or your car needs new tires, you already have a designated envelope filled with cash ready to go. It is how you plan for the expected so it does not feel like an emergency when it arrives.
Do I have to use physical cash for the savings challenges?
While our systems are designed for physical cash stuffing because the visual element helps change spending habits, you can absolutely adapt them to fit your lifestyle. Many baddies use prop money in their binders to represent money they have moved into a digital high yield savings account. Do whatever works best for your financial setup and goals.
What is the difference between a savings challenge and a budget binder?
A savings challenge is designed to help you save a specific amount of money over a set period of time. You work toward one clear goal, like saving $5,200 or $10,000. A budget binder is a full budgeting system that helps you manage all of your monthly expenses, bills, and savings goals in one place. Both are powerful tools and many of our customers use both together.
Our Products and Systems
Which savings challenge is best for a beginner?
If you are new to saving and want to build the habit without feeling overwhelmed, we recommend starting with one of our beginner challenges like The $800 Club Challenge or Lil Bitty Bucks. These are designed to give you quick wins and help you build consistency before you tackle a larger goal. You can also take our free quiz to get matched to the perfect challenge for your life.
How does the 10K Unlocked Savings Box work?
The 10K Unlocked Savings Box is a physical acrylic box designed to help you save $10,000. You deposit cash into the box and cross off the corresponding amount on the built in tracker. The box can only be opened by breaking it, which eliminates the temptation to dip into your savings early and keeps you focused on completing the challenge. Breaking the box at the end is a whole celebration moment.
What is included in the savings challenges?
Each savings challenge includes a physical binder or book with numbered sleeves or envelopes, a tracker to mark your progress, and instructions to get you started. Some bundles and boxes also include additional accessories like bill trackers, sinking fund tabs, and savings inserts. The exact contents are listed on each individual product page.
